StoryFrame is a lightweight, responsive WordPress slider plugin for presenting images and videos with clear titles, short descriptions and optional links. It is designed for website owners who need an elegant slider without the complexity and performance overhead of advanced layer-based slider builders.

Beautiful visual storytelling

Each StoryFrame slide can include:

• An image or video
• A clear title
• A short descriptive excerpt
• An optional link to a page, post or external website
• An option to open the link in a new browser tab
• Alternative text for image accessibility

The title and excerpt appear over the lower-middle section of the slide on a translucent black background. This keeps the text readable without obscuring the main subject of the image.

Supported slide types

StoryFrame supports:

• WordPress Media Library images
• YouTube videos
• Vimeo videos
• Self-hosted MP4 videos
• Self-hosted WebM videos
• Self-hosted Ogg videos

YouTube videos use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain. Vimeo embeds use the provider’s Do Not Track setting.

Internal and external links

A slide can lead visitors to:

• Another page on the website
• A blog post
• A product or service page
• A registration page
• An external website

When a slide contains a title or excerpt, its caption becomes the clickable link. This allows embedded video controls to remain usable.

Transition effects

Choose between:

• Fade transition
• Horizontal slide transition

Autoplay controls

Enable or disable autoplay and determine how long each slide remains visible.

Navigation controls

StoryFrame can display:

• Previous and next navigation buttons
• Slide indicator dots
• Touch-swipe navigation
• Keyboard navigation

Performance conscious

StoryFrame does not bundle a large JavaScript framework or depend on obsolete slider libraries. Its frontend uses lightweight browser-native JavaScript and loads its assets only when a StoryFrame slider is displayed.

Images are delivered through WordPress’s responsive image system and non-primary media is lazy-loaded where appropriate.

Accessibility

StoryFrame has been designed with accessibility in mind. It includes:

• Properly labelled slider regions and controls
• Keyboard navigation using arrow keys
• Home and End key navigation
• Visible keyboard focus indicators
• Screen-reader slide announcements
• Image alternative-text fields
• Reduced-motion preference support
• Automatic pausing during keyboard interaction
• Controls removed from the keyboard sequence on inactive slides

Website administrators are encouraged to provide meaningful alternative text for every informative image.

Creating a slider

1. Install and activate StoryFrame.
2. Open StoryFrame  -> Add New.
3. Enter a name for the slider.
4. Select Add Slide.
5. Choose an image or enter a supported video URL.
6. Add a title and short excerpt.
7. Add an optional destination URL.
8. Continue adding and arranging slides.
9. Configure the slider height, transition and navigation settings.
10. Publish the slider.
11. Copy the generated shortcode into a page or post.

Displaying a slider

StoryFrame generates a shortcode similar to:

[storyframe_slider id="123"]

The shortcode can be placed in:

• WordPress posts
• WordPress pages
• Shortcode blocks
• Widget areas
• Elementor Shortcode widgets
• Other page builders that support WordPress shortcodes
• Theme template content that processes shortcodes

Replace 123 with the ID generated for the slider.

Slider settings

Each slider provides controls for:

• Slider height
• Fade or slide transition
• Autoplay
• Autoplay interval
• Previous and next buttons
• Slide indicator dots
• Pause on hover
• Pause during keyboard focus

These settings are stored independently for every slider.

Privacy

StoryFrame does not:

• Track website visitors
• Collect analytics
• transmit slider information to the developer
• Display advertisements
• Require an external account
• Include remote administration
• Send website content to an external server

If a website administrator adds a YouTube or Vimeo video, the visitor’s browser must contact that service to load the video. The applicable provider may process the visitor’s IP address and browser information under its own terms and privacy policy.

No external service is contacted when a slider contains only locally hosted images or videos.

Data retention

Uninstalling StoryFrame does not automatically delete created sliders. This protects administrators from accidentally losing their slider content.

Slider data can be removed manually from the WordPress dashboard before uninstalling the plugin.

StoryFrame is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later.

You may use, study, modify and redistribute it under the terms of that licence.
